     couple of reasons:  

    a)   You really need to talk to someone at the storage facility and make sure that   

           they sound professional.  Some self storage facilities use Call Centers to answer their

           phones.  Your going to have to ask them to direct you to someone at the facility.   If the

           management team at the storage facility does not sound professional to you, you

           ought to pass on renting space there.

     b)  You Might Get a Lower Rental Rate. Self Storage Managers are typically have the

           ability to offer prospective tenants some form of Rent Special, Discount, or Moving 

           Allowance.  Many times, these types of specials are not advertised, just make sure

           when you are talking to the folks at the storage facility that you inquire about any

4)  Make sure the Self Storage Facility is a Quality Property-  Do you really want to leave

5)  Does the storage Facility have adequate safety and security measures in place?​

      storage unit when you need it.  Ask about your access hours - each storage facility is

      different.

9)   Check to see if there is enough access for your moving truck to properly deliver

       your ​items. Some storage units facilities are only designed for small storage and will not  

       have space for trucks with large amounts of items.

 

10) Check to see if the Self Storage Company is a member of the local Chamber of

       Commerce, a State or Nation Self Storage Association, the Better Business Bureau.​

       A professional company will be active in their industry associations. ​

11) Consider prepaying your rent.  Self Storage rental contracts lease terms are typically 

       month to month​.  If you are planning on storing your items for a 6 months or a year, you

       may want to consider prepaying your rent up front.  Many self storage facilities offer

       significant discounts if you do this!

12) Keep the costs down by renting the interior or upper floor units. Those that you drive

       up to are usually more expensive. Compare the prices and make sure the size is the same

       before agreeing to anything but you’ll likely find a significant difference.

13) Look over the contracts before agreeing to anything and read the small print to

       avoid nasty surprises.  Be sure to check out the self storage facility's policy in case you

       are late paying your rent.  The fact is that self storage facilities can charge late fees for

       late rent, and or can sell the items in your storage unit to recover unpaid rent if

       you are significantly late.
